JUVENILE MALE COMMON EIDER

Common eiders nest along most of the Maine coast. There is something soothing about the gentle twitter of eiders in a calm cove early in the morning with the diesels of lobster boats and the bells of buoys far out to sea in the background.

HEN EIDER ON MAINE COAST

Eiders feed mostly on young blue mussels which coat nearly every rock on the ocean bottom. This bird was feeding in the tide rip close to the public pier at Pine Point in Scarborough, Maine.
