Burrowing Owl

This burrowing owl, Athene cunicularia, took great interest in what John Wagner and I were doing in Logan County, Colorado in June, 2007. We were conducting a USGS Breeding Bird Survey route and duly recorded him.

SHIELDING HER BABIES FROM THE MIST

Great horned owls are abundant in eastern Colorado. They are one of the first species to set up housekeeping, usually in early February.
