SAVANNAH SPARROW ON ROADSIDE AMARANTH
When one encounters flocks of migrating sparrows on Morgan County roadsides in the fall, as often as not they will be picking the seeds from the lowly amaranth weed. Amaranth protruding from the snow are used all winter long by prairie birds.
