Rooster's spring finery

Plains agriculture created an ecology unfamiliar to native game birds. Hence ring-necked pheasants were introduced in the late 1800s. They are so successful we hardly consider that they are an immigrant species just like most of us.

Given a choice, most pheasants will choose to run rather than fly.
